Friends: Scott Whitmore - My husband, how could I not list him first? I think he’s the most awesome guy in the world, intelligent, kind, and logical. But I’m biased. John Boulton - We imported him from Canada about two years ago. I think he’s become a darn good American during that time.
John Zielensky - Blues man extrordinaire and a great pappa bear to us all. Conrad “Lynx” Wong - My favorite little fuzzyhead. Andrew Thompson - Back when I was in FNC we met and noodled with art together. I’ve always respected Andrew’s ability to get ideas. Herbie “Bearclaw” Hammil - There has never been a
larger heart in all of the world. A man who donates much of his time to making children happy, but always has a moment to spare for anyone who needs it. Stephie Stone - A really talented artist that I’ve known for about six years now. She recently moved near me to try and land an animator job at disney. I think she’s more than talented enough to manage it. Azrael Coyotesdaughter - Az is responsible for me getting into the online journal scene, and her “Tails of the City” has really inspired me to try and write more myself. She won’t admit it, but she’s got a heart of gold.
Jimmy Chin - It’s my husband’s fault that he’s in the fandom at all. Jimmy is a really great cartoonist and an excellent mascot costumer as well. Take a look at a man who has more energy that two people combine! Tugrik - Also known him since the beginning of the fandom. He was one of the first outside fandom people to visit me and we’ve been friends ever since. Kevin Richardson - Put your page up already, Kevin!!!! Eric Blumrich - To some, he’s evil... to others he’s a hatemongering nazi... to me, he’s a sweetiepie. I love you, Eric! Karena Klefoth - Also a very talented artist, and someone who doesn’t take any guff! Sara “Caribou” Palmer - “Make art, not noise” is her motto to live by. She’s smart, loving, and talented. Another person I’m proud to call a friend.
Francisco! - Steak eatin’, tea drinkin’, multitailed foxguy! A mascot performer, gryphon lover, and generally cool guy. Yappy Slyfox - His real name is Randy Fox, so for some reason I don’t mind calling him ‘Yappy’ instead. Much like Herbie, he devotes a great deal of his time to making sick children happy, and performing every week in the PawPet show. Patrick “Mach” Dowden - Energy, dicipline, kinship, and kindness. Patrick is hard to sum up into words, but I’ve grown to respect him a great deal.
Melissa “Alya” Kantor - Also known as Rani or “Ranicute”, she’s another one of the cool local florida folks I know. she’s also one of the few women shorter than me, which is an instant reason to like her right there! :) Kelly “Prankster” Frank - One of the few woman mascots I know, and brave enough to face the soccer crowd even. Scott “Simba” Garron - Mach’s roomie, and the voice of Arthur Bransvager on the Sunday night PawPet show. He’s quiet a lot of the time, but when he talks he always manages to crack me up.
Cooking: Top Secret Recipies on the Web - Kitchen versions of your favorite store-bought snacks and restaurant favorites. CopyKat - Another site that has good kitchen versions of restaurant food. I got a good steak marinade from these folks. Homearts recipe finder - I like this site because you have the option of feeding it info on what you have on hand and making a meal out of it.
1st Traveler’s Internet Cookbook - Recipies from the best small country kitchens in the USA. Arielle’s Recipe Archive - Hand picked from the best of the best from many of the internet newsgroups out there. If it’s not here it’s probably not worth cooking. Robbie’s Kitchen - I like this site because it also includes useful kitchen tips and info along with a nice selection of recipies.
The Alt.Fan.Pratchett recipe archive - This I look at for fun mostly, now I know that brittish bachelors eat! Comics: PVP Online - The quintesential gamer comic, take a look at the exploits of the employees of PVP magazine! Ozy and Millie - A comic about the exploits of two little children living in an adult world. I enjoy this comic for its whimsy and lack of vulgar themes when so many other online comics use them for a cop-out to get yucks.
Freefall - Mark Stanley has never ceased to make me laugh. Who would have thought that Nuclear Physcists could come up with such things? Comics.com - Several of my favorite comics are here, including Rose is Rose, For Better or Worse, Dilbert, and Get Fuzzy. Zot! Online - From Scott McCloud, the wroter of Understanding Comics comes a really great comic about a superhero that lives in a utopian world, and his friend Jenny who lives in ours.
Gene Catlow - From Albert Temple comes his three day a week comic that ranges from light humor to deep philosophy. I always anticipate the next issue. Music: The Afro-Celt Sound System - The music is indescribable, Celtic violins and flutes combined with African tribal drums and synthysizers. Alice Cooper - I recently rediscovered his music after hearing about who Alice cooper was exactly. I found out that I liked him as a human being and liked his music just as well.
Rob Zombie - every so often you just want to listen to music that makes you want to slam into walls. I like Rob Zombie.. he likes dead things. He writes songs about dead things too. Steve Taylor - And on the other side of the pendiulm, Steve remade the christian music industry by writing songs that were more than “Jesus is my boyfriend” type of happy lyrics. His songs were hard hitting, sarcastic, and sometimes darkly cynical. I really respect him. Alas, he has retired from singing, and now launches new bands into the industry.
Newsboys - One of Steve’s protege bands, most music groups have one really good album and then start to fade, but the Newsboys have done just the opposite, getting better and better with each album. Terry Taylor - Founder and bandmember of The Lost Dogs, The Swirling Eddies, and Daniel Amos... he does solo projects too, including the soundtrack to The Neverhood, Boombots, and Skullmonkeys. (No relation to Steve Taylor!)
Game Stuff: Lucasarts Games - The epitome of adventure game manufactrers. They also tend to have rock solid coding in their products. All my favorite games are Lucasarts games. The Neverhood - Makers of The Neverhood, Skullmonkeys, and Boombots. Founded by Doug TenNapel, the creator of Earthworm Jim. The Gaming Intelligence Agency - I come here for my Playstation updates. Not that I own a Playstation, but I think that the games are cool and they often have really nice design artwork here.
Game Nexus Cheat Menu - One of the places I go for walkthroughs. Adventuregamer - THE site for news on adventure games. This site gives daily updates on game development and offers download of walkthroughs, UHS files, and patches. Miningco’s guide to Interactive Fiction - Another well managed site devoted to adventure games and text adventures.
GameFAQs - Another good site to get walkthroughs, cheat codes, and other FAQ’s from your favorite games. This site also has stuff for console games as well as PC games. Animation: The Animated Features Page - Despite the annoying ad banners I find this site to be well laid out and a good source of info on recently released and upcoming animated movies.
The Princess and the Cobbler - What could have been the greatest animated feature of all time was destroyed by coporate greed and then butchered in order to fit the formula. Maybe some day the true version of this film will be seen. Hayao Miyazaki web - I usually hate Anime and manga, but Miyazaki has a way of creating compelling stories with deep and loving characters. He neither patronizes the young nor panders to the old.
Radiskull and Devil Doll - A giant floating skull with a mohawk and his little cute demon companion. Just go look if you happen to have shockwave flash. RPG Stuff: Furryspace - A place I’ve started roleplaying recently, although not the most emotionally hardcore game system I’ve ever encountered, it still has a good group of dedicated people and a nice system. Come and visit if you ever feel like it.
SinaiMUCK - Where I cut my teeth on roleplay, an RPG muck that has stayed strong for almost four years now with no sign of slowing. Take a read through the logs. Pinnacle Entertainment Group - Makers of Deadlands, Weird west and Hell on Earth. My latest obsessions. Wizards of the Coast - Sometimes treated like the Microsoft of the gaming world, they still produce good quality products at a fairly quick speed. Right now they’ve gotten the rights to Star Wars RPG and we’re all holding our breaths that they didn’t screw it up.
Accessdenied.net - A really great way for gamers to find local groups in their area. This is inadvertantly how I ended up playing Deadlands. Useful Reference pages (useful to *ME* at least...): i-Tools, Research-it! - A great site to help you look up dictionary meanings, find rhymes, quotes, maps, and a million other things.
The book of Names - The thing I have the most difficulty with in RPGs is coming up with character names, so I keep several name sites bookmarked. I like this site because of it’s unique way of categorizing the names by related things such as flowers or animals. History of Things that Never Were - A good site for timelines, or more specifically nonexistant timelines such as the chronicles of Indiana Jones’ life.
Fantasy Name Generator - A cool online name generator, you can tweak it to get the proper sounding names you want... and it does insults too! The Book of Gods - A good site to get information on some of the thousands of mythological figures and gods that exist around the world. What I can’t find here, I can usually find on a page linked from here. Cool Artists’ Sites:
Yoshitaka Amano - I’ve always admired the work of this Japanese artist. His style holds the old Japanese traditions instead of simply being ‘anime-ish’ yet they often have a sci-fi or fantasy flair as well. Aimee Major - An amazingly talented cartoonist and fantasy artist. I find something new every time I look at her site. Black Mermaid Productions - I fell in love with this art many years ago when I discovered an Elfquest comic called Wavedancers. A style that is both cartoony yet also elegant somehow.
Bruce Timm - I really like his art after discovering it via the Batman Animated Series. He literally redefined the character and sparked interest in it again. Maxfield Parrish - I’ve always adored his color artwork and his beautiful and vibrant characters, plus fantastic landscapes of green skies, yellow mountains purple grass... and somehow still managing to make it look natural.
Nifty Writers: Spider Robinson - The creator of Callahan’s Crosstime Saloon. Cool stories about people with very real personalities. More to come! |
